The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 形象设计很棒，设定也有意思，但是故事的水准真的比皮克斯的平均水平差太多了。感觉导演被自己母亲控制欲荼毒太深，反而无法在这个主题上顺畅地展开。重头戏完全没有情感着力点，乱成一团了。

好看！虽然是华裔主角，也引入了不少东方文化，但内核依然是好莱坞式，不过青春成长的阵痛不分东西，各种元素融合得非常自然，期待导演的其他作品！

延续了皮克斯原东家苹果公司的思路——新产品的秘诀是换壳。既然黑白色的功夫熊猫那么火，那就再在来一个！配合加拿大的枫叶红，整只红色熊猫，不会有人不喜欢吧？一只干脆面不过瘾，那就满屏干脆面jiong jiong跑。飞檐斗拱，祖先祠堂，道士法术，川菜竹林。标准件似的中国元素一锅拿下，这些只是卖相，无关紧要。关键是要做好故事核心。以女孩不再为了追求家人眼中的完美而违背心愿，最获得独立人格为主线，讲述了13岁小姑娘的成长。就这一点就足以让本片脱离低幼动画的范畴，这也是迪士尼高明或说鸡贼的地方。不过，拿中国妈妈，姥姥三代人来做丑角，虽最后和解，但也有点含沙射影，不太舒服。

套壳中国文化的好莱坞亲情电影，可惜略懂皮毛...
一个双向救赎的故事，个人还是觉得挺感同身受的，因为能在角色身上找到很多共鸣，我们忍受着教育方式的弊端所带来的痛苦，但仍然继续履行，让人无奈，所以当后面女主摆脱束缚时竟有一种痛快感。当然，电影并非是在批评，毕竟什么都是有利弊的，但无论是何种教育方式，前提都要让对方有自己的选择
小学全校第一升上市重点中学，随后认识了人生最好的一堆朋友，开始沉迷流行音乐，注意力被完全瓜分，学习一落千丈，家里很失望。有一次好朋友打电话到家里，我妈直接跟他说不要带坏我。这电影可以映射出很多记忆。

很可爱也很有趣的电影，女孩子和她的友情真是令人羡慕，追星中二这些设定也符合那个年纪的孩子。可惜我太不喜欢母亲的设定了，为什么绝大多数片子里妈妈都是歇斯底里的，而爸爸就善解人意呢？
