The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 还以为虎头虎脑的男主会成为一个革命者，没想到背叛了自己的阶级。但他作为一个赤贫者，能受谴责吗？ 像圣保罗这样的血汗黑工，我们90年代广东某些工厂也应该存在过。还好，电影中的黑工没有被铁链锁起来。 世界如此不公，发生过无数次阶级革命，可是革命过后一切如旧，不过是换了一茬人罢了。
不能忍受就参与其中，时间久了也就习以为常了
工头养成记，其实大多数各级管理者也都是这样“成长”出来的，呵呵
这次啃生肉的感觉还不错。对于数学的坚持，究竟是什么？问题摆在这里，会有不同的回答
就整个片子的内核来说，朝鲜数学家的背景特别之处有何独特表现呢？一个本土不得志数学家隐姓埋名教个孩子基础知识也行啊，甚至其他国家的任何人都可以。就为了安排自己孩子过得不爽要游回去被打死了的情节吗？到底是为了表达倡导学术自由还是为了黑朝鲜呢？这片子太模糊
还有一点。不要自怜！！！！！
节奏有点慢；故事很现实，类似的故事中国肯定也不少，中国有太多题材可以拍阴暗面；一直期待一个爆点，导演偏偏要耍人，然后故事戛然而止
如果是我，我该怎么做；如果是你，你该怎么做
人贩子市场猖獗，男人做苦力，女人做娼妓。更可怕的是，不知道谁是好人, 谁是坏人，政府腐败，系统瘫痪，警察保护的是既得利者的利益。Marcus最后的选择无可厚非，换了其他六个人，也一样都会做这样的选择，因为每个人都有弱点和自私的一面，也因为现实中的英雄很少很少。
成绩与艺术，成绩是反映学习情况的好坏但并不是唯一的标准，艺术有多样性与启蒙性。
如果我懂数学，会看得更带劲吧。他和女生共弹钢琴这一段应该是全片高潮，数学是一首沁人心脾的乐曲。

故事很老套，但把她作为一部传递数学之美的片子我给五分，数学之美真的是方方面面
数学是解开宇宙奥秘的语言，可惜我学不会，수포자就是我，我一直特别喜欢学数学好的人，特别能理解像北大韦神这样沉浸在数学公式里的天才，圆周率之歌真的太美妙
与其说是一部电影，不如看做是一场关于剥削和阶层的微缩展示，
片名所说的“不正常/奇怪国家”，既指没有学问自由的朝鲜，也指扭曲了这种自由的韩国，所以数学家像崔仁勋小说《广场》主人公那样最终选择了第三国。他的儿子虽然是个빨간이(pink boy)、死于越北而非脱北，但毕竟是亲骨肉，能不伤心吗？至于潜伏的脱北间谍，既有服务于朝鲜保卫部的，也有在韩国国情院拿津贴的，本片都有所讽刺，两边都黑了，不过南边可以允许你黑它的自由。
